Freen in $50NL. Woot!

Tonight I played two tables, winning a whopping $1.55 on one before it dried up.

At the other table, evidently I lost money on 5 of the first 7 hands I was dealt (folding 2 pre-flop). But things improved. All these hands are from that table,

First off, this happened on my 4th hand at the table:

That put a big bulls eye on a certain player. I wanted him to double me up. And even though I wanted to leave near the end I stayed in the hopes that I could get chips off him.

Someone opened UTG to $1.50, I 4-bet with Q/Q to $4.50 from the SB, and he called.
The flop was A/Q/5 (two hearts). I c-bet, and he folded. :( I wish he had A/K.

I flop the world:

My biggest loss of the night was against the target:

Not much I could do there. I figured he had 8's, 9's or J's. Maybe a Q/r. But I'm not playing a big pot with that hand.

Nice flop again:

What? A/K again? No way it'll hit.

What? Since when does A/K hit the flop two times the same night? And they even hold! Weeee! Next thing you know...

...A/A will pay

Here's another enjoyable hand:

The T on the river was good. I don't think he'd have called if it didn't hit. The T made me having a T less likely.

A/K?

No way! It holds every time? Inconceivable!
Now, I know stacking with TPTK is an iffy play. In fact, I think it was the wrong play here. But it worked. I know he made that draw-shove earlier, but he probably wasn't calling a shove with a worse hand.
I think he had the flush draw, but who knows? He went into the tank awhile and implied that he thought I had a set of Kings.

I run so hot I'm afraid to touch myself:

So, I left the table with a nice profit.

It's my birfday

On my last birthday I had a terrible day at work trying to rescue a server and was out really late. When I got home everyone was asleep. I played poker and lost a bunch.

This birthday went a lot better. Oh, I still lost $ playing poker, but less than half a buy-in. I was down a lot on one table and managed to make a profit there. So I'm happy. I never had a really big win, but I was able to take a lot of small pots.

Yesterday...

I went on tilt:

It paid.

I hate these hands:

But I love these hands:

I just wish they paid more. The other guy called too much, but since he probably had crud I was just trying to get as much as I could. I just with the T was a spade, or the river was a Q.

Today...

My first hand of the night. Could I have gotten away from this? Maybe. But oh well.

4/2 pays!

So anyway, I won a bit last night, lost a little less tonight. So... I think I'm up $15 or so this week? I guess it could be worse.

I played a really short session. But finally, I got lucky for some wins!
It feels nice to get stacks in and win for a change. :)

I don't screw around and play A/A properly.

And then on another table I flopped the world.

I was sort of disappointed with the short stack's three-bet on the flop. It forced me to reveal the real strength of my hand, and chased out the stack I wanted. But oh well.

Brrr!

Poker hates me right now.
I played one double-or-nothing. I called a pre-flop shove with J/J. He had 4/4. He flopped a set to win, pretty much ending it for me.
I played one MTT. On hand #3, I was all-in vs two others who had a *combined* 5 outs on the turn. Sure enough, one rivered the Queen so instead of tripling up I go broke.
I played one 18 player S&G. All in on the flop with Q/J on a J-high flop. He called with a gut-shot and one over, and turned the straight, crippling me. (I'm actually still in that game... praying for a miracle).

Sha-kow! Another sniper of an update.

Played three $50NL tables.
Bluffed off $25 early on one table.
Ended up about $25 down overall. :(

I had Q/Q four times on one table. I think I came out about even with those. :(

Two sets... very little payout.

Then I played this absolutely terrible pre-flop.
TERRIBLE!

One of the last hands of the night.
Standard call against a shorty. I figured it was at least a coin flip.

Hole card's aren't revealed until after the river is dealt. I was calling for a Jack on the river. If that hit, what a dagger twist for him!

I'm drinking a beer now, so I won't let myself play any more ring games tonight. I might play a couple double-or-nothing games a little later though. Friday night's a good time to play.

Doing well at going slow

I played two double-or-nothing games.

On the first table I got down to 1,100 in chips pretty early when someone check/raised my button bluff. I was never in trouble though. This hand helped:

I eventually hovered around $3k until the shorties battled it out.

At the other table, the lady on my right kept going into pots weak so I just used her to stay ahead of the blinds. I also had some weak players on my left who I stole from.

I swear, I made this move because the BB was sitting out and I thought there was a good chance that the SB was going to fold and give the BB a walk.

And the final hand of the game...

People just don't understand play at the end of tournaments. I wish I could play with these people, in the same positions, over and over again.

Quick...

Played two double-or-nothings.
Lost one one off the bubble. Not much happened there, and not much I could do. My shove at the end (50/100 blinds, $700 stack) with A/6s met up with K/K. I paired the 6.

On the other table... well... my fate was determined early:

It was a good fate.
The game was mine to lose at that point. When I busted the last player I had over $6k.

I might play a couple more later tonight, but I'm watching the Jeff Dunham Christmas special so we'll see how tired I am when it's over.

Monday, November 17, 2008

Argh!

Played two $50NL tables.
Lost over three buy-ins.

I did a dumb move where I stacked with TPTK (A/K) against a set of Jacks and it tilted me some.
But I had lousy cards. No sets. One straight that didn't pay.
A/A three times. Uncalled twice, ran into a set of Jacks and got stacked the third time.
K/K twice. Both uncalled.

I hate Jacks.

Quick update

I checked my PokerTracker results for the $10 double-or-nothing games. Evidently I've played exactly 25 of them so far. Three were turbos, and one of those was before they reduced the rake. Anyway, 25 is a nice number for an official results post.

$71 profit, making an average $6.17 per hour per game (and I play two of these at a time).
I might play in a couple more of these tonight. Though, I'm happy now so playing can either keep me at my current level of satisfaction or leave me more disappointed. That's not a +EV situation. Hmmm... Maybe I won't play.

Oh... and I do have some cheaper double-or-nothing games under my belt, with better better results, but I didn't bother posting them.

Double-or-nothing

I figure one needs to cash in 55% of the double-or nothing games to stay profitable.
100 games at $10.80 = $1,080 in entry fees. At $20 per cash, that's 1080/20, for 54 wins to break even.

I play two games at a time. I've only lost both games once.
When I lose 1 of the 2, it feels like a loss. I'm out $1.60, and it makes me eager to play a couple more games to get a double-win session.

I've been doing well. I've been playing two a night, and cashed in 5 of my last 6.

Jack-Jack Attack! (aka, LOL)

PokerHandReplays messed up the payout. We split the side pot, for something like a $130 loss each.

Early in the game. How would *you* have played this?

Basically, if I'm not willing to re-raise I'm not willing to play. Especially not out of position. This game is not about collecting chips, it's about surviving. Having $5k chips at the end pays as much as having $500 chips. So A/T is easily mucked in early position.
A/8 UTG, dude? wha You earned that loss.

Out-of-position callers with junk. He plays bad, and I nut the river:

Really, dude? Really? In worst position?

I had taken the blinds several times in this position. The guy immediately on my left was also playing in my other game (where he was immediately on my right). He had his SuperNova stars showing, and was sitting at 8 or so Limit Hold'em tables as well.
I had chips so the call wouldn't cripple me, and since I figured he didn't put me on much I was way ahead of his range.

I'm shoving here, like never. Against *one* player it's at best a coin flip. And you *cannot* be profitable in these game if you stack on coin flips.

Ends up I would have busted two players, but it would have been a win due to a bad play. I stand behind my decision.

I had a lot of Aces last night. Didn't win a lot with them.... But I had them, which was nice.

An early raise, and I'm the BB. I'm hoping he has a hand. From him an early raise means strength, and I'm the short stack in the BB so that gives me less credibility.

The bubble, I look at my hand and say a little thank you to God:

Not so good night

I hit a live tournament last night. I think I limped in from the SB once during the first 30 minutes.

Then I had A/Qo and opened to 4 BB's, getting called from the conservative player on my left.

The flop was 2/3/5 off-suit, not very scary. I made a c-bet and was called. I figured he had something like 8/8, or Ace/face.

The turn was a 4, giving me the wheel.
I checked, he bet, I called.

The river was a Q. I checked, he bet.
I said, "I think we have the same hand" and reluctantly called.

He showed 6/6... the only hand the could have logically had that had me beat. :(

I went from 900 chips to 300 in chips, but managed to get up to 450 via an 8/8 hand .

I pretty much had to fold every hand after that. Nothing but A/3'sh hands UTG, and absolute rubbish in position. I had a couple hands that I planned on making moves with (K/Ts in position) I guess, but there were always a couple people in the pot before me, and they'd have been pot committed to call, so my K/Ts was essentially rubbish.

Eventually I was back to 300 in chips with 100/200 blinds.
I was desperate to find an opportunity to shove but it never came. When the BB hit me I went all-in in the dark. Three people went into the pot.

I had 4/2.

Game over.

My friend ended up just breaking the bubble for 6th place, which was cool.

When I got home I played a little bit online. PokerTracker had me playing two sessions at $10NL FR, and I was down two buy-ins. Being a neatness freak I decided to play and try to wrok my way back to green for that level.

Well... I played three games. I lost $2.50 on one table. I won $4 on another (I bluffed on the river with a pocket second pair, $3 into a $4 pot, and was called by an A/K who had no pair!).

On the third table... not so good.
Two times I lost $7 when the river hit a T to beat me. The first time it was a 4 outer, and the second time it was a 2 outer. :(

So, I lost $14 at that table, making me down over a buy-in for the night.

Deeper in the hole at a game/level I don't really like playing. :(

Slight meltdown last night

I'll try to keep this short and sweet.

I played a $10 +$1 27-player S&G and though I had chips I lost bluffing a guy on every street. He had 8/4s, no pair or straight draw, and called me to the river... which gave him his third spade.
So he went from chip leader, to mega-chip leader, and I went to losertown.

I played two $50NL 6-max tables. I had a couple beers earlier, and majorly tilted. I remember making a $22 bluff into a $30 pot which I took down. I showed the K/J (no pair) to encourage more action.
Everyone was eager to play into me.
I got stacked when, kept calling a guy down on a K/9/2 rainbow flop with my 8/8. Then on the river I hit my third 8. I stacked, he called. Ends up that rivered set gave him a flush. (Stupid me). Poof... down $60.

On the other table I lost $20'ish. I remember making a $15 bluff which I got shoved on and had to fold.

Anyway, I played terribly and turned what should have been a $30 losing night into an $90 losing session.

I'm a lot better than that. I'll be at a charity game tomorrow night, so I might just not play tonight to get my head back where it needs to be.
Or not.
I don't know.

~~~~
Break even + day.
Played two $10.80 double-or-nothing tournaments, cashing in one and making some really good moves and folds in the other, yet failing to cash. No regrets in either game, but that's still a $1.60 loss. :(
I played some 6-max $50NL. The tables kept drying up so instead of playing two tables I ended up playing 4. I had small cashes on three of them, and lost $8.50 on one.
Here's the hand that did me in on the losing table:
Well... PokerHandReplays keeps screwing up the hand.
Here it is in raw form:
Seat 1: Gullmyr ($67.30 in chips)
Seat 3: BankofDLW3 ($33 in chips)
Seat 4: magnficnt ($17.65 in chips)
Seat 5: FloppyJT ($118.20 in chips)
*** RIVER *** [9d 6d Kc 9c] [3h]
*** SHOW DOWN ***
magnficnt: shows [Qs 9s] (three of a kind, Nines)
SvgePenguin: mucks hand
magnficnt collected $34.30 from pot
Seat 5: FloppyJT folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 6: HERO (button) mucked [As Kh]
Oh well. At least I won some more later, thereby cutting down my overall loss.
Anyway, I had a $4.14 profit overall at the rings, so that made up for my S&G loss and made me an insignificant winner for the day.
Sure beats losing.
Live tourney last night
I went to my friend's family's tournament. We only had enough player for two tables this time.
I became the chip leader on hand #1, when my 6/6 flopped a set which turned into a full house on the turn. Something like three people kept calling me, and nobody even made trips. One old guy who called me had Queen high. QUEEN HIGH?!?!
I didn't win a hand after that for about a half an hour. Well, I played one or two hands to the flop, never hit, had my continuation bet called, and then check/folded.
I was moved to the bad table sometime during that dry period. My table was really juicy, and the table I was at was substantially harder. But luckily I had pretty good position.
I had 6/6 again (on the button I think), and mucked it when a good player opened from early position. He showed A/Q. Yeah I had an advantage (card-wise and position-wise), but chances are there were going to be better chances for easier money so why take the chance? Besides, he'd c-bet any flop and wouldn't pay off my set if I hit so it was a tough spot.
The next hand I played to the river was 6/6, that hit a 6 on the river to make another full house. It paid nicely, but I wasn't getting rich by any means.
This was a wild hand. I'm guessing about a the chip stacks and positions, but here's how a hand played out. Sickest hand I've seen in a long time. I tried doing it through PokerHandReplays but I screwed something up and it didn't play right:
Seat 1: Chris (1200 in chips)
Seat 2: Stephen (2035 in chips)
Seat 3: Oldie (1850 in chips)
Seat 4: Me (1500 in chips)
Seat 5: Someoneelse (900 in chips) is sitting out
Seat 6: Uncle (700 in chips)
Someoneelse: posts small blind 50
Uncle: posts big blind 100
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Me [Jd 6c]
Chris: bets 300
Stephen: folds
Me: folds
Someoneelse: raises 600 to 900 and is all-in
Uncle: calls 400 and is all-in
Chris: calls 600
*** FLOP *** [Ks 9d 6h]
*** TURN *** [Ks 9d 6h] [2d]
*** RIVER *** [Ks 9d 6h 2d] [Ah]
*** SHOW DOWN ***
Chris: shows [Ad As] (three of a kind, Aces)
Someoneelse: shows [9s 9c] (three of a kind, nines)
Uncle: shows [Kd Kh] (three of a kind, Kings)
Chris collected 2500 from pot
I didn't really get anything good until the final table. Well, nothing great. I think my only pocket pairs were the sixes, but I had K/Q and A/T which seemed like gold. They were so much better than what I had been getting.
I remember being a short stack and seeing a woman look really weak and limp UTG. There was one caller. Plenty of money in the pot, I had A/2s, so I shoved.
She folded, the second guy called called with Q/J or something like that. The flop were rags and I turned an Ace to lock it up.
The lady said that she had me beat, so I assume it had something like A/6.
My friend Chris went out in third, leaving me heads up with the chip leader.
He may have been chip leader, I had a substantial advantage. I figure I was 60% to win.
When I became chip leader I offered a split and he accepted. It was getting late and I won the thing last time so I thought it was a gracious thing to do.
I didn't really like being a guest who pops in and keeps winning the thing.
So I split 1st/2nd and got pretty good chunk of money and I'm happy.
Oh... while waiting for Chris to arrive to drive me up to the game, I played a couple $5 double-or-nothing tournaments, winning both. So was 100% yesterday. :)
Craptacular donkitude
I had a bad day Monday, and haven't hit the rings since then. (Today is Saturday)
I just wasn't mentally set to play, and donked off over three buy-ins.
Pre-flop I'm OK, but post flop... I stacked like a noob with my weak overpair. I thought he had A/Ks. Oh well.
Jack-Jack on a different table:
Not much I could do different there. I guess I could have charged him more to draw.
This is the next hand at the same table:
I suck, but at least I bail without stacking.
Same table. Same over-aggressive guy.
I make a steam-shove figuring it's a coin flip.
Anyway, I deserved much of the beating I got.
Add a lot of hands where I go up against a short stack and call shoves with nice hands only to lose with a slightly smaller kicker and you have my night.
So here's my session update:
Since then I've been playing tournaments. I finally won a $2.20 satellite to the Sunday $200k (after a huuuuuge cold streak).
I played 4 $10 double-or-nothing games, winning 3 and losing the 4th to a river draw-out. That made me like those games.
Last night I played 4... Ugh! The short stacks kept getting in bad and doubling up. And people making terrible moves kept getting rewarded for them.
The seventh hand of the tournament and a player on my right shoves for the third time pre-flop. I call, as does a short stack:
Notice how many chips I have left? ^
A bit later she shoves pre-flop again and the better hand holds:
Whew!
I wasn't involved in this hand, but she shoves pre-flop again:
Sick.
I got knocked out when she shoved, I called with A/J, and someone called. She had A/J as well, and the caller had K/T (WTF?) and hit his T.
The one tournament that I did win, I shoved with Q/Q and was called by the SB who had K/K. Luckily a lady showed up on the turn and I was saved.
